GCE Chinese language and cooking program offers you the chance to explore the symbolic significance of food in Chinese culture. In this program your language courses will be combined with learning about the history and importance of China and of course Chinese cooking lessons.

OBJECTIVES

In addition to your language course, Chinese cooking classes will be held every weekend. GCE has created a highly structured cooking course starting with the history of Chinese cooking followed by detailed instruction on 8 different types of Chinese cooking.

COURSE FEATURES

 • Courses range from one week to three months

 • Our cooking instructors are all highly experienced Chinese chefs

 • We offer free, supervised after-class training.

COURSE OUTLINE

Our unique course consists of four main components: 1) Class time; 2) Supervised after-class training; 3) Exchange program featuring Chinese food, Chinese language and culture; and 4) Optional extracurricular activities. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced student, our courses have plenty to offer you. Each session lasts 45mins.

 Classes are taught by some of China's most prominent chefs. They are dedicated to providing expert guidance and training to students ranging from complete beginner to advanced students.

Classes are held at the BCCLS,. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced student, our course has plenty to offer you.

The course is mainly based on Chinese modern styles. Disciplines include Chinese eight regional cuisines, like Beijing cuisines, shanghai cuisines, Sichuan cuisines. During the application process, prospective students are free to choose.

Lu (Shandong )Cuisine Fish in sweat and sour sauce, braised pig elbow, fried mutton slices with green scallion, braised sea cucumbers with spring onions, baked bean curd, braised whelk with brown sauce and fried oysters, etc.
Chuan (Sichuan)Cuisine Braised chicken dices with peanuts, sautéed spicy pork, boiled beef in hot sauce, Mapo dofu (spicy bean curd), fried sliced pork meat with spicy sauce and fish with bean sauce, etc.
Yue (Guangdong)Cuisine Fried eggplant slices, fish-flaovred bean curd, sautéed dove breast with green kale, fried prawn with sesame, sautéed conch slices, crispy chicken in hot sauce, fried shrimp with scrambled egg and stir-fried meat slices with pear, etc
Min (Fujian)Cuisine Braised weever with chrysanthemum, sautéed phoenix-tailed shrimp, simmer top grade pomfret
Su (Jiangsu)Cuisine Diced chicken and carrots, mandarin fish in squirrel shape, dry-blown chicken, sparrow with special hot sauce, braised turtle dove with spiced powder, fresh water shrimp with bitter melon
Zhe (Zhejiang)cuisine West Lake fish in vinegar, fried fish with three slices, stir-fried crab in orange, eel shredds in Ningbo style, Bifengtang dasheen with shrimp, beggar's chicken (roasted chicken in mud),braised duck tongue and web with fresh mushroom and Zhu Hongwu bean curd, etc
Xiang (Hunan)Cuisine Zu'ang shark fin, chicken with cayenne pepper, sweet-smelling and crisp duck, braised pork with lotus seed, crispy crushed bean slices, hot pot sliced chicken with chilli
Hui(An’hui) Cuisine Stir-fried frog with log flower mushroom, phoenix-tailed shrimp steak, Li Hongzhang
hotchpotch, Bagong Mountain bean curd, grape fish, mountain bamboo shoots, assorted meat.

•  Supervised After-Class Training

Our supervised after-class training sessions give students the opportunity to practice what they have learned in class. We invite you to try Chinese eight regional cuisines freely, like Beijing Roasted duck.

Exchange Program (Wushu, Chinese Language and Culture)

Students can pair up with Chinese students to exchange cooking tips, language and culture. Such exchange programs have sown the seeds of many lasting friendships. Students can meet at mutually convenient times.

Through these free, twice-weekly activities, students can further their knowledge of cooking disciplines as well as other aspects of China's fascinating culture.


SPECIAL FEATURES

GCE's students are completely immersed in Chinese language ,food, culture and life. Here are some of our course's free special features:

 • Chinese food Weekend

Students taking part in a course lasting eight weeks or longer are invited on free food every month.

 • Activities with Native Chinese Speakers

These include activities like sports (basketball, bowling, etc) and social activities (karaoke competitions, games nights, banquets, movie nights etc).  

 • Sightseeing programs

Our program includes regular weekend tours of Beijing's major historical and cultural sites, including the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace, to name but a few. Students can gain a deep understanding of Chinese culture through these fascinating, free trips. Optional trips further a-field are available for an additional fee.

COMBINED CHINESE Food – LANGUAGE COURSE

This program suits students who wish to learn both Chinese food and the Chinese language. The language course helps students develop their listening, reading, writing, grammar and pronunciation skills, and, of course, their ability to converse in the language.

All Levels Complete Beginner to Advanced

ACCOMMODATION

GCE offers students excellent accommodation options, both on- and off-campus. Students can choose from staying with a host family, in a student residence, on-campus, in an apartment or in a three-star hotel room.  

VISAS

Students should apply for an F-class visa issued by their local Chinese embassy/consulate. F-class visas are typically issued for one, three or six months, depending on the duration of the course. Visa extensions can be organized where necessary. Some embassies will issue an L-class visa for entry into China. This can then be converted to F-class upon arrival, once enrollment is completed and program fees are paid.

START DATES

Below is a list of Start Dates, Application Deadlines and Enrollment Deadlines for our Wushu courses. The Application Deadline refers to the final date for submission of application payment and payment of application fee. The Enrollment Deadline refers to the final date for confirmation of placement and payment of course fees. We provide you with the necessary documents to obtain your visa immediately upon enrollment. Please allow two weeks for your visa to be processed.

PROGRAM FEES AND SCHEDULES

Program fees include: Class Time, Supervised After-Class Training, Exchange Program (Chinese cooking, Chinese Language and Culture), Optional Extracurricular Activities, Accommodation, tast food weekend (for courses lasting eight weeks or more) Registration and Enrollment, Placement Test, Certificate and Transcript, Visa Documentation, Transport from Airport to Accommodation, Induction, Welcome Pack, Insurance, Social Activities, Tours and Activities with Native Chinese Speakers, Internet and Library Access, and International and Chinese Program Advisors.

ELIGIBILITY

Prospective students must be:

 • Aged between 18 and 60 years (with exceptions)

 • In good health condition

 • High school graduate
